On May 22, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz, a hungry man from Florida, posted this on the Bitcointalk forum:

“I’ll pay 10,000 bitcoins for a couple of pizzas.. like maybe 2 large ones so I have some left over for the next day,” Hanyecz wrote. Bitcoin was just 16 months old and worth less than $0.01 back then.

Someone took him up on the offer and sent him 2 pizzas. Those 10,000 Bitcoins would be worth around $60 million in 2018.

Since then, the crypto community celebrates “Pizza Day” on May 22 of every year – the day the very first real world Bitcoin transaction was made.
